This painting is based on the Gaboon viper from sub-Saharan Africa, a snake known for its striking pattern of browns, creams and off-white. Rather than replicate its natural markings, I chose soft, soothing colors arranged in a linear presentation, giving the composition a symmetrical, meditative quality.
The work developed through careful layering and controlled brushstrokes, letting the pattern dictate rhythm and movement rather than literal anatomy.
