This is one of my favorite paintings because of its vibrancy and looseness. I was drawn to the brilliance and texture of the rainbow bush locust, and to the way its color seems almost excessive for something so easily overlooked.
The painting developed through quick brushstrokes and layered color, allowing movement to remain visible rather than resolved. Researching the animal revealed that locusts are social grasshoppers.
