This painting focuses on the legs of a greenbottle blue tarantula. I was drawn to the softness of the hair-like setae and the subtle highlights on the tops of her knees, which create a sense of three-dimensionality.
The swirling forms in the background were developed to echo and enhance this softness, letting movement and gesture define the composition rather than the anatomy.
