This painting is inspired by the hundred-pace pit viper. I was drawn to the triangular shapes in its pattern and explored them with a simple palette of ultramarine blue, cadmium red, cadmium yellow, and titanium/zinc white.
The large brushstrokes were applied quickly, allowing the surface to flow and breathe and preventing the work from becoming overly detailed. Movement, color, and composition take precedence over literal depiction.
