About Rochelle Mason I must confess I'm a secretive Scorpio and
a reclusive artist so its a little difficult writing about myself.
I prefer spending my days in quiet solitude painting animals. Two cats
share my life here in beautiful, rural
Volcano,
on the Big Island of Hawaii, atop the world's most active volcano.
I've been painting wildlife and companion animals professionally since 1980 and in 1990 decided to build my reputation as an endangered species artist. Why? Because my passion is to represent less-romantic animals that get little public attention. I've had the good fortune to learn about many wonderful creatures by painting and writing about them. The paintings, collected internationally, are most often shared with the public as educational, traveling exhibits featured mainly in natural history museums. Right-brained creativity is balanced with left-brained paperwork. Contrary to popular belief, some artists actually enjoy being business people. I wish more artists did. I've come far in my journey as an artist and realize I still have a long way to go. Having loving and supportive parents has a lot to do with my success.
